Thinking of getting your baby or toddler started as a model? There is always a big demand for toddlers and baby models. And child modeling agencies are always on the lookout for uniques faces, stunning eyes, wild curly hair AND happy, good natured babies and children.
But how do you get a baby modeling talent agent? Continue reading to learn a few tips to help you navigate the exciting world of baby and toddler modeling and the talent agencies that represent child models in LA
they will need to see your child's look and they will need to have an open space on their roster for your child. A talent agency may have plenty of Asian babies but are on the look-out for caucasian babies. Or maybe they don't need more baby models, but are currently scouting toddlers. So don't take it personally if one agent isn't interested in your child. It is a business of persisting and patience and you may need to submit to more agencies. We assist our clients with finding an agent if they are new to the industry or would like help with this. We have helped hundreds and hundreds of clients over the years get an agent for modeling, commercials and TV.

Getting your toddler or baby a professional headshot can help secure a talent agent for their modeling career. |
Most agencies have a "submission" page on their website where you will submit photos of your baby or toddler and fill out a form listing their size, height, weight, eye color etc. They will also want to know that you live within 2 hours of LA. Baby modeling castings or bookings may be last minute and the talent agent wants to ensure you can get to the casting or the job easily.

Do I need professional headshots for my baby to start modeling? This varies from agency to agency. Some agents prefer professional headshots and some are willing to use snap shots until the baby is a tad older. I personally wouldn't do professional baby headshots before the baby can sit up easily, typically around 8 or 9 months. An agent may or may not require professional headshots before 1 years old, but you are giving the child an edge by having strong photos.
I have had many clients who came to me because they weren't having luck getting an agent, and once I did the baby or toddler headshots, they signed with a fantastic LA child modeling talent agency. If it's in your budget it can be helpful. I've also had many parents tell me their child booked jobs right off their babies headshots.
Now if your child is one year old or older, they will need professional headshots taken by a reputable LA photographer. Robin Lorraine is highly recommended by the top youth talent agencies in LA. We will get the shots that talent agents love and that will help your child succeed. More tips below.

Talent agents like to see full body shots for baby or child models. |
What type of looks does a baby talent agency want? Typically they will want to see close ups, ideally with smile and some full body shots. The agent will be submitting these photos to castings and they usually want a portfolio of images that shows the child in different ways. The most important shot is a close up, and then ideally some personality and some full bodies.
What don't they want in a child's modeling headshot? Food stained clothing, food on the face, and clothing that is too big and sloppy. Also, no big logos like "Baby Gap" or "Nike" across the clothing and no Disney characters or such. Patterns are okay if not too busy. Like a little rose bud pattern or such is fine, but nothing too wild or distracting.
What about hats for baby headshots? I will only do hats once we have all the main shots. I find the agents love the photos with hats, but only if they have shots that clearly show the child models hair length and face in other shots. A shot with a hat would be more like a personality shot...additional images for their portfolio. I personally love hats so, I often do these shots at the end of the headshot photoshoot after I have captured the main shots. But in general, clean cheerful clothing, a bit on the snug side rather than baggy and colors that work with their skin tone and eyes are perfect. Also, some texture is always great, like knits.
And a great tip for girls is to use a diaper cover, ruffle covers or tights if they are in a dress. Sometimes babies move so much that they expose themselves and if they have a cute ruffled diaper cover, we won't lose the shot.
